The giant water bug (Lethocerus Americanus) became a personal icon and got me interested in entomology at an early age when one of these guys literally sank his fang into me. I spent a fair section of my childhood rearing, dissecting, and preserving these bugs, perhaps in retaliation. Just finding out who this insect was led me to create my first complete taxonomic chart, created from the local libraryÕs Britannica.
Bit by the educational bug, indeed. Eventually I extended my artistic interests to beetles and fossil flying reptiles, and used their images as vanitas and allegories for stories like that of Icarus.
