FINS

In 1989, I was approached by Bullseye Glass, the prime supplier of my materials and great advocates of kiln formed glass, to create a representational work using a product of theirs called "streamer glass" (a clear sheet of glass with tiny threads of a colored glass streaming through it). In looking for inspiration I was reminded of the brilliant Prismacolor pencil and energetic, loose pastels I so admired, and decided to attempt a similar technique in glass. Origionally dubbed the Techni-Koi series for their complexity, the description of the technique was eventually simplified to 'hatching' and applied to other series, notably the birch.

The koi has been a personal icon throughout my fusing career, a rendering that speaks to the fluid nature of the medium of kilnformed glass and I have tried to extend those qualities to other styles of fish as well.
