ABSTRACT

All abstractions are representations of something, and I have probably taken each of my pictorial genres over the edge and into abstraction at some point. I find that the formal arrangement of color and form creates an excellent field to display the numerous treasured bits of technique and form developed in my studio, and to delve into pictorial essence.

The first abstracts were called Cosmos works such as "You Never Ask." These were formal gatherings together of components and techniques that I had developed.

Later I began composing large drawn abstracts in a single firing, such as "Corded Cascade." Eventually I began reducing works and recombining them into Assembled Tile constructions, blending several techniques.
