Luna Coleoptera, Opus 322
Kilnformed glass and metals, 2004
Frame 38" h x 74" w
Three glass panels, various sizes
Luna Coleoptera is a triple panel rendition of the mighty Atlas beetle (insect family; Coleoptera) as a highly allegorical reference to Icarus, son of Daedelus. In the Greek myth Icarus, equipped with a pair of wings built by his father, flies too close to the sun and as his feather and wax wings melt, plunges down to his demise. These Beetles are not experiencing any difficulty flying here, but they do prefer to flit about mostly at night.
