Sea Island, Opus 151, 2000
Two glass panels, 22 by 33 inches. Frame, 44 by 84 inches.
The palm imagery entered Roger’s work as a nostalgic memoir of Southern California. The strange shaped trees he grew up with turned out to be a strong icon as he moved north and noted the lack of them. This particular treatment incorporates images of the Sea Islands National Park off the coast South Carolina, where he became enamored of the grass and palmettos marching into the dunes.
