Jade Pool, Opus 321, 2004
Two glass panels, 22 by 33 inches. Frame, 44 by 84 inches.
Part of the Techni-Koi Series, Jade Pool is a piece built by layering cut pieces of “streamer” glass, a clear sheet of glass with tiny threads of a colored glass streaming through it, to create the hatching that reminds Roger of the brilliant prismacolor pencil and energetic, loose pastels he so admires. The koi has been a personal icon throughout his fusing career, a rendering that speaks to the fluid nature of the medium of kilnformed glass.
