Autumn, Opus 193, 2001
Two glass panels, 19 by 20 inches. Frame, 38 by 54 inches.
This double panel aspen landscape focuses on the image of a thicket of trees pierced by an evening sky. In 1995 the birch and aspen series was Roger’s first successful landscape work since he left the medium of stained glass six years earlier. They now serve as a benchmark, or bellwether, for his studio work. Like old friends, he returns to the simple graphics and strong colors to mark his progress and feel based in his art form.
