When the Bough Breaks, Opus 206, 2001
Glass panel, 16 by 21 inches. Frame, 22 by 27 inches.
The wavering distinction between landscape and abstraction is fully involved in this experimental work. Reminiscent of the “full frame” school of photography, the edges of the work are untrimmed to illustrate the dissolving of image into material. These small landscapes begin to make use of Roger’s interest in constructing the work as a painter would, from background to subject, and include his initial experiments in translucency.
